ROOF REPLACEMENT PROCESS
A job meeting with the assigned foreman will take place at our shop to discuss any special instructions for your roof replacement process.
The morning your project begins, the roofing products you have chosen will be dropped off. Either in your driveway or a designated location on your property.
Our crew will arrive with our dump truck to cart away all job-related debris. The roofing products will be checked in to ensure proper quantities and colors were delivered.
OLD ROOF REMOVAL
We will carefully tarp and protect the house and shrubbery in preparation of the removal of the existing roof materials. The crew will then remove the roofing down to the original sheathing. Then clean it up and cart it away in our dump truck.
DECK PREPARATION
Once all the old roof materials have been removed, we will then inspect the sheathing for rotted or delaminated wood. We will then replace any wood that is no longer able to hold its designed weight. The Roof Replacement Process always needs a good foundation. Good, solid, strong wood is important for the rest of the roof to lay on top of it and make a good seal and hold snow weight.
Old roof is ripped off down to the wood base.
We then replace any wood that is rotted or structurally bad.
A custom bent heavy gauge aluminum drip edge will then be installed behind the gutters on to the roof sheathing. Ice and water shields will now be installed in all leak’s vulnerable areas of the roof. Areas such as gutter lines, valleys, wall transitions and roof penetrations. The remaining areas of the roof will then have a felt or a breathable synthetic underlayment installed over it.
Here we put on a moister barrier plastic liner to prevent water intrusion. All flashings will also be inspected, cleaned, or replaced as specified. A precut starter course shingle will be installed on the roof perimeter to seal the first course of roof shingles down.
SHINGLE INSTALLATION
The roof must be strong, that means all wood must be in good order. If there is rot or water intrusion that is weakening the wood structure or roof base, we must replace it. Replacements of the roof can be in small pieces or complete sections. if there is thick tongue and groove wood slots base on the home, we try to duplicate that process. Mostly plywood would be installed because of its strength and lower cost. Once all under support wood has been installed waterproof plastic or tar paper is laid down. This work is done by its manufacturers guidelines to obtain proper patterns and maximum water shedding qualifications.
Then we can set up the shingle installation, we start from the bottom up and layer the shingles on top of one another to keep water from getting inside your home.
A good roof replacement process always should have proper attic ventilation. It must be based on your home’s needs according to size and air flow specifications then it will be installed with strict guidelines. If a fan or vent is needed there is a mathematical computation for it as per square footage and possible open space inside the house attic area.
A heavy-duty color coordinated hip and ridge cap shingle will be installed. to let fresh air in from the top. It prevents mold and stale air in the attic also.
CLEAN UP
We meticulously clean up your property, including magnetic sweeps of your lawn. ( A wheeled magnetic machine picks up all steel nails we may have dropped during roof construction.) We do sweep of all driveways and walkways and remove all job-related debris. Packing into our dumpster or our truck and dropping off at the dump correctly.
A wheeled magnetic tool to suck up screws, nails, and pieces of metal during clean up.
COMPLETION
After your Suffolk/Nassau County roof replacement and installation is finished your project manager will carefully inspect the entire project. From the ground to the ridge cap – and ensure it meets our strict standards of a post clean and debris free work area.
Your home has a new roof. Good for 35 years or more.
SHINGLE ROOF OPTION
- TAB SHINGLES
- LAMINATED SHINGLES
- DESIGNER SHINGLES
Composition roofing is the most common roofing shingle option choice for residential homes on Long Island. Typically, composition shingles have a fiberglass reinforced mat coated with asphalt and mineral fillers to make the mat waterproof. The top surface of the shingle is embedded with a layer of ceramic granules to provide extra strength and an aesthetically pleasing finish. Furthermore, composition shingles (fiberglass based) typically obtain a class “A” fire rating as the fiberglass mat resists fire. Composition shingles come in a variety of colors and styles.
TAB SHINGLES
Shingle Option #1 – The 3-tab roofing shingle has been on Long Island roofs for a very long time. It was usually the most economical choice to roof a home. The 3-tab shingle roofs have a distinctive flat appearance and come in a variety of colors. Most manufacturers will warranty 3-tab shingles for 20-30 years. Because of this the 3-tab shingle has almost become obsolete. Its main purpose now is for repairs or to match an existing roof.

LAMINATED SHINGLES
Shingle Option #2 – Laminated shingles are also known as “dimensional” or “architectural” shingles. It is the most popular Nassau/Suffolk County home roofing choice for re-roofing and new construction. Laminated shingles are heavier and more durable than the traditional 3-tab shingle. The Laminated shingle can be recognized by a contoured visual effect on the roof’s surface. These shingles are available in an increasing number of styles and colors. Laminated shingles have become extremely popular because of their durability and great appearance. A manufacturer’s warranties on laminates can range from 30 years to lifetime.

DESIGNER SHINGLES
Shingle Option #3 – Premium shingles are a heavier laminated shingle and represent the absolute top of the line in composition roofing. They are thicker, heavier, and physically larger than standard laminates. Premium designer shingles often incorporate extra features like moss inhibitors. Although the biggest distinguishing characteristic of premium shingles is the design. You may rarely see these shingles on homes and buildings, but when you do it is sure to make an impression. Of course, premium shingles are more expensive than typical laminated shingles, but most carry a 50 year to lifetime warranty. Also there is a huge variety in colors and designs of premium composition shingles. Some mimic a slate or wood shake look, while others are completely unique designs that only pictures could explain.
